Ski areas in the near:

Grünberg:       500 m, near of the apartments, you can take your equipment and go for a snowshoeing or ski mountaineering tour up to the hill
                           and  take a rest on the mountain in the cosy tavern "Grünbergalm" or you relish the view to the lake and the "Voralpenland".
Feuerkogel:    15 km, a family ski area on a high plateau with a superb panorama view to the Dachstein and some lakes.
                           It's also an interest place for experienced skier. Because of the expansion with a gondola cableway, a chairlift  and new snow cannoons.
                           Beside the 8 ski lifts, there are 6 ski mountaineering  trails. On wednesday this is with a guide and for free.
Kasberg:         25 km, at Grünau/Almtal, 13 ski lifts, also interesting for ski mountaineering. A family ski area.
Dachstein West: 60 km, big interconnected ski area. Gosau, Russbach, Annaberg. 66 ski lifts and more than 140 km of slopes.
Loser:               70 km, 9 ski lifts with the longest panorama downhill run from austria. A family ski area.

Cross country skiing is possible in Neukirchen, Mitterndorf, Langbathsee or in Scharnstein.
For natural tobogganing you will find at the place Hochsteinalm. A pure amusement. Track lenght 3,5 km, on top is a tavern and there you can borrow sleds.
Ice skaters have a lot of possibilities to curve their round on Krottensee, Taferlklaussee or inside the ice rink in Gmunden.
Ice stock sport ist alike on Krottensee and Taferlklaussee or possibel at inn's which supervise ice rinks (Rabelschenke, Silberfuchs).
A particular charm is to make extensive hikes through the snowy landscape at the quiet time of the year.

Gmundner events every year:
the beautiful chrismas market "Schlösser Advent" in the famous landmark of Gmunden, the water Castle Orth.
Around the lake there are a lot of other christmas fairs, advent choral concerts, and other custom organisations like the "Glöcklerlauf" this is every year on 5.january, "Liebstattsonntag" is short before Easter. Further on there are the "Salzkammergut festival weeks" (cultur events in the theatre) it starts with march.
From april until may there are the "Traunsee sailing weeks" (sailing events, partly international).

In Kammerhof museum in the middle of Gmunden, there is ist the permanent exhibition "Klo und so", all about historic sanitarian objects from firm Lauffen.
There is a Doll museum too and some Ateliers, studios and gallerys (10erHaus, Galerie 422, Pahl, Cigler, Halder, Obermayr, Kreuzer, Graf, K&K,...)

People who like to bath and have a sauna should drive to Eurotherme Bad Ischl or Bad Schallerbach (most visited thermal bath in austria).
In the imperial town Bad Ischl you will have a lot of possibilities. For example Emperor Villa and Park, Royal Confectioner Zauner, Leharvilla.
Very watchable is the World Cultural Heritage Hallstatt, town Salzburg with the Hohensalzburg Castle, Birth-house of Mozart, Getreidegasse, Dome.
